Know how to crack Civil Services exam by Siddharth Jain, IAS (AIR 13, CSE 2015)

Siddharth Jain who successfully cleared Civil Services Exam in 2015 with All India Rank 13 shared his journey to success and preparation tips for all the Civil Services Aspirants. Siddharth Jain did his B tech from IIT Roorkee in Mechanical Engineering. The passion to become a Civil Servant ignited in him while he was pursuing his B tech and he started devoting time to his preparation for Civil Services exam when he was in the 3rd year of B tech. As he stated, he did not have any knowledge about the exam and was an average students. He read on internet, got to know the syllabus, and with consistent dedication, sincerity and hardwork, he started his preparation and made his first attempt in 2014. He successfully cleared prelims in his 1st attempt, but failed to clear mains.

As every successful individual, he denied to give up, learnt from his mistakes and came out with flying colors in his 2nd attempt in Civil Series Examination 2015.

How to develop right aptitude required for administrative services

One must be aware of the duties and responsibilities of a Civil Services officer and a Civil Services aspirant before jumping in for the preparation. The candidate is not expected to have academic excellence, but should have certain qualities which make a person leader. The candidate should have critical thought process, empathy, right understanding, decision making skills, knowledge about current affairs especially which are related to our country and should have an aptitude for governance.

How many hours should be devoted to studies?

Siddharth Jain explained that the total number of seats available every year is approx. 1000, and particularly for IAS around 180. So, hardwork and dedication is surely required. But it’s not about quantity of hours candidate needs to put, rather it’s all about quality of study a candidate does in those hours.

How to score good marks in Civil Services Examination

Siddharth Jain discussed about his initial failure and advised students not to get disheartened with the failures, rather work upon the drawbacks and improvise at every step.
